The first organization that we are so happy to support is The Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation. The Ara Parseghian Medical Research Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to funding medical research projects to find a treatment for Niemann- Pick Type C (NP-C) disease and related neurodegenerative disorders. The Foundation was founded in 1994 by the Parseghian family shortly after they learned that three of the four children of Mike and Cindy Parseghian were diagnosed with NP-C disease. Their son, Michael, lost his fight with NP-C in 1997 at age 9. Their youngest, Christa, passed away in October of 2001 at the age of 10. Then Marcia died in 2005, at the age of 16. These children touched all who knew them in unforgettable ways. It is hard to put into words how it feels to know this amazing family. Their profound love for their children and their ability to transform deep grief into hope is inspirational. I am truly in awe of Cindy and Mike. They have lived through every parent’s nightmare three times, and still they work to make the dream of a treatment come true.
